As soon as Gangaur is mentioned, there is excitement among the women and women of Rajasthan. This in itself is incomparable. It is celebrated with faith in Rajasthan. This is how Gangaur festival is celebrated

This festival is associated with Lord Shiva and Parvati. In Gangaur, the word Gan means Lord Shankar and the word Gaur means Mother Parvati. This festival is celebrated continuously for 16 days. The special thing is that in the festival where virgin girls worship Gangaur on this day and wish for their favorite groom, married women on this day keep fasting on Gangaur and wish for their long life. The women sing the Gore Gor Gomti song while worshiping Gangaur meaning Shiva and mother Parvati, sorting milk from the coach. Folk songs are also sung in worship which is the pride of this festival.

Why is Gangaur celebrated?

The question must have come in the minds of many, why is Gangaur celebrated in the end? The belief behind Gangaur festival is that on this day virgin girls worship Gangaur, they get a favorite groom and if married women worship and fast on Gangaur, they get husband's love and the husband's life is long.
As such, Gangaur festival starts from the second day of Holi and is celebrated continuously for 16 days after Holi. The festival of Gangaur begins to celebrate the Tritiya of Chaitra Shukla Paksha according to the Hindi calendar. According to the Puranas, Gangaur festival started from mythological period and since then it is a festival celebrated every year since many years ago.
After Holi, preparations start for the festival. Those women who worship Gangaur, worship their worshiped Gangaur on the second day of Chaitra Shukla Paksha i.e. on a river or lake on the day of Holi and immerse the Gangaur idol on the Tritiya of Chaitra Shukla Paksha i.e. in the evening on Holi .
The story of this Gangaur
From ancient times, Goddess Parvati did a lot of penance and fast to get Lord Shankar ji as a groom (husband). As a result, pleased with this penance and fast of Mother Parvati, she appeared in front of Mother Parvati. Lord Shiva requested Mata Parvati to ask for a boon. Mother Goddess Parvati wished to get Lord Shankar as her bridesmaid. Mother Parvati's wish was fulfilled and mother Parvati ji was married to Bholenath. It is believed that Lord Shankar ji had given the blessing of Goddess Parvati ji on this day to be unbroken good luck. Maa Parvati gave this boon to all the women who worship Maa Parvati and Shankar ji together on this day with legal rituals and keep fast.
In this puja, 16 points are also considered to be of special importance. First of all, this festival is celebrated continuously for 16 days. In the worship of Gangaur, women sing 16-16 bindi with kajal, roli and mehndi while singing songs. The number of fruits and suhag items that climb in Gangaur is also 16-16. Women are also seen in 16 adornments on this day.

Culture : अतुलनीय गणगौर पर्व

गणगौर का जिक्र आते ही राजस्थान की युवतियों और महिलाओं में उत्साह दौड़ पड़ता है। यह अपने आप में अतुल्यनीय है। राजस्थान में आस्था के साथ मनाया जाता है। इस पर्व का खास इंतज़ार होता है। यह पर्व राजस्थानी संस्कृति का हिस्सा तो है ही साथ में यह परिवारों को भी आपस में जोड़ता है। लड़कियां एवं महिलाएं शंकर जी एवं पार्वती जी की पूजा करती हैं। गणगौर पर्व से भगवान शंकर और माता पार्वती की कहानी जुड़ी हुई है अनेक सैलानी इस पर्व को अपने कैमरे में कैद करने के लिए लालायित रहते है। भारत में खासकर राजस्थान और मध्यप्रदेश के सीमावर्ती इलाकों में मनाया जाता है।

ऐसे मनाया जाता है गणगौर पर्व

यह पर्व भगवन शंकर और पार्वती से जुड़ा है। गणगौर में गण शब्द से आशय भगवान शंकर जी से है और गौर शब्द से आशय माँ पार्वती से है. यह पर्व 16 दिनों तक लगातार मनाया जाता है। खास बात यह है कि पर्व में जहाँ कुंवारी लड़कियां इस दिन गणगौर की पूजा कर मनपसंद वर की कामना करती हैं, वहीँ शादीशुदा महिलाएं इस दिन गणगौर का व्रत रख अपने सुहाग की लंबी उम्र की कामना करती है। महिलाएं गणगौर मतलब शिव जी और मां पार्वती की पूजा करते समय दूब से दूध की छांट देते हुए गोर गोर गोमती गीत गाती हैं। पूजा में लोकगीत भी गाये जाते हैं जो इस पर्व की शान है।

गणगौर क्यों मनाया जाता है?

बहुतों के मन में ये सवाल जरुर आया होगा की आखिर में गणगौर क्यूँ मनाया जाता है? गणगौर पर्व के पीछे मान्यता है कि इस दिन कुंवारी लड़कियां गणगौर की पूजा करती हैं तो उन्हें मनपसंद वर की प्राप्ति होती है और शादीशुदा महिलाएं यदि गणगौर पूजा करती हैं और व्रत रखती है तो उन्हें पति प्रेम मिलता है और पति की आयु लंबी होती है।

यूं तो गणगौर पर्व होली के दूसरे दिन से ही शुरू हो जाता है और होली के बाद 16 दिन तक लगातार मनाया जाता है। गणगौर का पर्व हिंदी कैलेंडर के हिसाब से चैत्र शुक्ल पक्ष की तृतीया को से मनाना शुरू किया जाता है। पुराणों के अनुसार गणगौर पर्व का प्रारंभ पौराणिक काल से हुआ था और तब से अर्थात कई वर्षों पूर्व से हर वर्ष मनाया जाने वाला पर्व है।

होली के बाद से पर्व को लेकर तैयारी शुरू हो जाती है। गणगौर की पूजा करती है वे महिलाएं अपने पूजे हुए गणगौर को चैत्र शुक्ल पक्ष की द्वितीया अर्थात होली के दिन किसी नदी या सरोवर जाकर पानी पिलाती है और चैत्र शुक्ल पक्ष की तृतीया को अर्थात होली के दिन सायंकाल में गणगौर की मूर्ति का विसर्जन कर देती हैं।

यह गणगौर की कथा

प्राचीन से समय माता पार्वती ने भगवान शंकर जी को वर (पति) के रूप में पाने के लिए बहुत तपस्या और व्रत किया। इसके फलस्वरूप माता पार्वती की इस तपस्या और व्रत से प्रसन्न होकर माता पार्वती के सामने प्रकट हो गए। भगवान शिव जी ने माता पार्वती से वरदान मांगने का अनुरोध किया। वरदान में माता पार्वती जी ने भगवान शंकर जी को ही वर के रूप में पाने की अभिलाषा की। माता पार्वती की इच्छा पूरी हुई और मां पार्वती जी का विवाह भोलेनाथ के साथ सम्पन्न हुआ। ऐसी मान्यता है कि भगवान शंकर जी ने इस दिन माँ पार्वती जी को अखंड सौभाग्यवती होने का वरदान दिया था। मां पार्वती ने यही वरदान उन सभी महिलाओं को दिया जो इस दिन मां पार्वती और शंकर जी की पूजा साथ में विधि विधान से करें और व्रत रखें।

इस पूजा में 16 अंक का भी विशेष महत्व माना गया है. सबसे पहली बाटो ये पर्व 16 दिनों तक लगातार मनाया जाता है. गणगौर की पूजा में गीत गाते हुए महिलाएं काजल, रोली और मेहंदी से 16-16 बिंदी लगाती हैं. गणगौर में चढ़ने वाले फल व सुहाग के सामान की संख्या भी 16-16 ही रहती हैं. महिलाएं भी इस दिन 16 श्रंगार में नजर आती है।
