Camel fur cutting art:  The moon and the stars on the camel

Bikaner, India.  The procession of the moon and the stars on the body of the camel ? This is surprising but also true. Bikaner district in western Rajasthan state of India has become famous for this. 

      Friends, the name of this unique art is ---fur cutting art.  The craze for this art that is becoming Tourists reach Bikaner wishing to capture this art made on camel in their camera. Bikaner is the only district in Rajasthan where artists perform this work with great enthusiasm. This art has become so popular that there is a great competition and prizes are being placed on it, and the camel foster one day and night to win these prizes. Camel men compete to win the fur cutting competition. This competition is held every year during the camel festival in Bikaner in January.

        Airoplane on Camel Airplane on Desert Ship. On the camel, the images are shaped one by one. Apart from airplanes, many shapes including moon, stars, horse, scorpion are made. These figures are made on sight. The craze of camel fur cutting art is continuously increasing. The girl named Megumi of Japan has been coming to Bikaner for the last ten years only for fur cutting.

      This Japanese woman hires a camel here and makes drawings on it, participates in the competition, Magumi has also won the competition several times. This fur cutting art of camel art and common tools camel is not only domestic tourists but also foreign tourists. People from many countries including France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Germany reach Bikaner and capture this art in their camera.Many tourists also shoot videos.

  I talked to the tourists several times about fur cutting.Everyone said that there is no camel in their country. Apart from this, in a small town like Bikaner, camel is given so much respect, it is no surprise.

          Fur cutting on camels in Bikaner is done in December and January. However, many camel keepers decorate the camels in their homes even during marriages and other manglicious functions. This is how the design of a camel's fur cutting is as beautiful as it looks, it is equally common to use tools in preparing it. There are two types of scissors ie medium and small size scissors and comb and hair removal brush are the main tools.

         Camel foster design their vision with these tools. Camel's soft hair is cut ahista-ahista with scissors and a figure is made. Mostly dark or black camels are used in this work. From this, figures emerge. Although the work is done on camels in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Udaipur in Rajasthan, but their number is very less. 

         In Bikaner, this work is the highest, more than two dozen camel keepers prepare their camels. But this work is done in winter and December. The main reason for this is that in January, the camel festival. and in the winter, camel spinach can easily do this work in the warm sun.

दिलचस्प  फर कटिंग कला के दीवाने है पर्यटक

            चांद और सितारों की बारात वो भी ऊंट  पर। यह आश्चर्य है लेकिन सत्य भी। भारत के पश्चिमी राजस्थान राज्य में स्थित बीकानेर जिला इसके लिए विख्यात हो चुका है। मित्रों इस अनूठी कला का नाम है फर कटिंग कला। तेजी से लोकप्रिय हो रही इस कला के प्रति दीवानगी देखते ही बनती है। ऊंट पर बनाई गई इस कला को अपने कैमरे में कैद करने की चाह लिए पर्यटक बीकानेर पहुंचते हैं। 

             राजस्थान में केवल बीकानेर ही ऐसा जिला है जहां यह काम कलाकार बड़े मनोयोग के साथ करते हैं। यह कला इतनी लोकप्रिय हुई है कि इस पर बाकायदा प्रतियोगिता होती है और पुरस्कार रखे जाने लगे हैं और इन पुरस्कारों को जीतने के लिए ऊंट पालक दिन-रात एक कर देते हैं। फर कटिंग प्रतियोगिता को जीतने के लिए ऊंट पालकों में गजब की प्रतिस्पर्धा रहती है। यह प्रतियोगिता हर साल बीकानेर में जनवरी माह में होने वाले ऊंट उत्सव के दौरान आयोजित होती है।

ऊंट पर हवाई जहाज

रेगिस्तान के जहाज पर हवाई जहाज। ऊंट पर एक से बढ़कर एक चित्रों को आकार दिया जाता है। इसमें हवाई जहाज के अलावा चांद, तारे, घोड़ा, बिच्छू सहित अनेक आकृतियों का बनाया जाता है। ये आकृतियां देखते ही बनती है। ऊंट फर कटिंग कला का क्रेज लगातार बढ़ रहा है। जापान की मेगुमी नामक युवती पिछले दस वर्र्षो से बीकानेर आ रही है वो भी केवल फर कटिंग के लिए। यह जापानी युवती यहां ऊंट को किराये पर लेती है और उस पर आकृतियां बनाती है, प्रतियोगिता में हिस्सा लेती है, मैगुमी कई बार प्रतियोगिता भी जीत चुकी है।

बेमिसाल कला और सामान्य औजार

          ऊंट की इस फर कटिंग कला के न केवल देसी पर्यटक बल्कि विदेशी सैलानी भी मुरीद है। फ्रंास, इटली, स्पेन, स्वीडन, जर्मनी सहित अनेक देशों से लोग बीकानेर पहुंचते हैं और इस कला को अपने कैमरे में कैद करते हैं अनेक पर्यटक वीडियो भी शूट करते हैं। मेरी अनेक बार सैलानियों से फर कटिंग के बारे में विस्तार से बात हुई। सभी का यही कहना था कि उनके देश में ऊंट नहीं है। इसके अलावा बीकानेर जैसे छोटे शहर में ऊंट को इतना सम्मान दिया जाता है यह किसी आश्चर्य से कम नहीं है। बीकानेर में ऊंट पर फर कटिंग दिसम्बर और जनवरी में की जाती है। हालांकि अनेक ऊंट पालक अपने घरों में शादी-विवाह और अन्य मांगलिक कार्यों के दौरान भी ऊंट को सजाते-संवारते हैं। 

यूं तैयार होती है डिजायन

ऊंट की फर कटिंग जितनी दिखने में खूबसूरत होती है इसे तैयार करने में उतने ही सामान्य से औजारों का इस्तेमाल होता है। इसमें दो तरह की कैंची यानि मध्यम और छोटे आकार की कैंची और कंघी तथा बाल हटाने का ब्रश प्रमुख औजार होते हैं। ऊंट पालक इन औजारों के साथ अपने विजन के साथ डिजायन तैयार करते हैं। ऊंट के मुलायम बाल कैंची से अहिस्ता-अहिस्ता काटे जाते हैं और आकृति बनाई जाती है। इस कार्य में अधिकांशत: गहरे या काले ऊंट को ही काम में लिया जाता है। इससे आकृतियां उभर कर सामने आती है। हालांकि राजस्थान के जयपुर, जोधपुर, जैसलमेर औरर उदयपुर में भी ऊंटों पर यह काम किया जाता है, लेकिन इनकी संख्या बहुत कम है। बीकानेर में यह कार्य सर्वाधिक होता है, दो दर्जन  से अधिक ऊंटपालक अपने-अपने ऊंट को तैयार करते हैं। लेकिन यह कार्य होता है सर्दी के दिसम्बर और जनवरी में। इसकी प्रमुख वजह है जनवरी में ऊंट उत्सव का आयोजन और दूसरा सर्दी में ऊंट पालक गुनगुनी धूप में इस कार्य का आसानी से कर सकता है।
